Legal Overview
Federal legal framework for online ammunition sales and tokenized commodities.
Federal Law
At the federal level, no Federal Firearms License (FFL) is required to sell ammunition. Online ammunition sales are legal across the United States, with age restrictions as the primary federal requirement.
Age Requirements
Federal law sets minimum age requirements for ammunition purchases:
| Ammunition Type | Minimum Age |
|---|---|
| Handgun ammunition (e.g., 9mm) | 21 years old |
| Rifle/Shotgun ammunition (e.g., 5.56 NATO) | 18 years old |
AmmoMarkets enforces age verification during the redemption process.
Token Classification
Ammunition tokens are commodity receipts — each token represents a claim on one physical round of ammunition stored in a warehouse. They are backed 1:1 by real inventory, making them fundamentally different from speculative tokens or securities.
State Laws
While federal law permits online ammunition sales, several states impose additional restrictions that affect whether we can ship to your address. See State Restrictions for details.
